Lets have a closer look on how to draw a location or map pin in Illustrator.

Step by step guide to Location pin

Draw a circle with red fill colour.

Hold down SHIFT while drawing to keep proportions

Draw another one placed in the middle of the first one. You might do that by pressing down ALT and SHIFT key while drawing from the very middle of the first circle.

Make the fill colour of the second circle black.

Change tool: Direct Selection Tool (white arrow)

Select lowest point in the first red circle. Drag straight down (press down SHIFT key while dragging).

Change tool: Convert Anchor point tool.

Click once in the lowest point of the red object. This will collapse the handles.

Want a hole in the top?:

Mark both objects. Choose Shape Builder tool.

Hold down the ALT key so the tool changes from plus to minus. Then click on the black circle.

You are done!

BTW – you can also make a more drop shaped location pin. By handling the handles a tad different:
